Local Initiatives Support Coalition (LISC) Greater Cincinnati has been a funder of the Avondale Development Corporation since ADC was founded in 2011. LISC Greater Cincinnati’s support of Avondale flows through its Place Matters program.

LISC’s funding of Avondale’s Quality of Life (QOL) plan is a perfect example of how LISC can help transform communities in a holistic and comprehensive way. QOL is the official master plan for Avondale. Two years in the making and enjoying broad community involvement and support, the QOL plan has been unanimously approved by the Avondale Community Council, the City of Cincinnati Planning Commission and Cincinnati City Council. It is Avondale’s map to manage growth in the City’s hottest neighborhood to the benefit of existing residents and businesses and those who choose to be located here.

LISC Greater Cincinnati has also helped fund the data-driven Avondale Housing Strategy, which will prioritize redevelopment efforts and determine near- and long-term funding needs for housing redevelopment and support programs. Most importantly, the Housing Strategy will guide ADC’s anti-displacement policy for Avondale. The Strategy draws on a variety of resources, ranging from social-demographic trends and population projects to land-use zoning, key corridors and development areas and estimates about households at risk for displacement. It incorporates appropriate goals from the QOL as well as the ADC Housing Framework.

The affordable housing-focused Hale Avenue housing development is also supported by LISC. This development is designed to ensure housing choices respect and sustain a vibrant Avondale and improve the marketability of the neighborhood. This multi-phased project features townhomes for sale to families and households that earn no more than 115% of the area median income.

LISC also helps fund operations and capacity building at ADC.

LISC is the nation’s leading community development organization, with offices in 31 cities and work underway in hundreds of rural communities across the country. LISC works collaboratively with local groups to help identify priorities and challenges, formulate strategies to address them and deliver the most effective support to meet the needs on the ground. In addition to Avondale, LISC Greater Cincinnati works with resident-led, community-based development organizations throughout Hamilton County and in Campbell and Kenton counties in Kentucky.
